Surah al-Faatihah - (The Opening)

“Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us…” (2:127-128)

[002:127] And (remember) when Ibrâhîm (Abraham) and (his son) Ismâ‘îl (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka‘bah at Makkah),(saying), **"Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower."

127. And (remember) when Ibrâhîm (Abraham) and (his son) Ismâ‘îl (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka‘bah at Makkah),(saying), “Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.”

[002:128] Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You, and show us our Manâsik (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage - Hajj and ‘Umrah), **and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful

“Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good…” (2:201)

[002:201] And of them there are some who say: **"Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!

201. And of them there are some who say: “Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!”

“Our Lord! Pour forth on us patience, and set firm our feet…” (2:249-252)

[002:249] Then when Tâlût (Saul) set out with the army, he said: "Verily! Allâh will try you by a river. So whoever drinks thereof, he is not of me, and whoever tastes it not, he is of me, except him who takes (thereof) in the hollow of his hand." Yet, they drank thereof, all, except a few of them. So when he had crossed it (the river), he and those who believed with him, they said: "We have no power this day against Jâlût (Goliath) and his hosts." But those who knew with certainty that they were going to meet Allâh, said: **"How often a small group overcame a mighty host by Allâh’s Leave?" And Allâh is with As-Sâbirûn (the patient)

249. Then when Tâlût (Saul) set out with the army, he said: “Verily! Allâh will try you by a river. [002:250] And when they advanced to meet JâlÝt (Goliath) and his forces, they invoked: **"Our Lord! Pour forth on us patience, and set firm our feet and make us victorious over the disbelieving people."**

[002:251] So they routed them by Allâh’s Leave and Dâwûd (David) killed Jâlût (Goliath), and Allâh gave him [Dâwûd (David)] the kingdom [after the death of Tâlût (Saul) and Samuel] and Al-Hikmah (Prophethood), and taught him of that which He willed. And if Allâh did not check one set of people by means of another, the earth would indeed be full of mischief. But Allâh is full of bounty to the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

251. [002:252] These are the Verses of Allâh, We recite them to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in truth, and surely, you are one of the Messengers (of Allâh).

Ayat-ul-KursÎ (2:253-255)

[002:253] Those Messengers! We preferred some of them to others; to some of them Allâh spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to ‘Îsâ (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidence, and supported him with Rûh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. If Allâh had willed, succeeding generations would not have fought against each other, after clear Verses of Allâh had come to them, but they differed - some of them believed and others disbelieved. If Allâh had willed, they would not have fought against one another, but Allâh does what He likes.

253. Those Messengers! [002:254] O you who believe! Spend of that with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who are the ZâlimÝn (wrong-doers).

[002:255] **Allâh! Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyum (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists). Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His KursÎ 1 extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.** [This Verse 2:255 is called Ayat-ul-KursÎ]

“Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, …” (2:284-286)

[002:284] To Allâh belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and whether you disclose what is in your ownselves or conceal it, Allâh will call you to account for it. Then He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allâh is Able to do all things.

[002:285] The Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulâ (Patron, Supporter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people."**

“Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us…” (3:7-9)

[003:007] It is He Who has sent down to you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) the Book (this Qur’ân). In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book [and those are the Verses of Al-Ahkâm (commandments), Al-Fara’id (obligatory duties) and Al-Hudud (legal laws for the punishment of thieves, adulterers)]; and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allâh. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: **"We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord."** And none receive admonition except men of understanding. (Tafsir At-Tabarî).

[003:009] **"Our Lord! Verily, it is You Who will gather mankind together on the Day about which there is no doubt. Verily, Allâh never breaks His Promise".**

“Our Lord! We have indeed believed, so forgive us our sins…” (3:14-19)

[003:014] Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world’s life; but Allâh has the excellent return (Paradise with flowing rivers) with Him.

[003:015] Say: "Shall I inform you of things far better than those? For Al-MuttaqÝn (the pious - See V.2:2) there are Gardens (Paradise) with their Lord, underneath which rivers flow. Therein (is their) eternal (home) and Azwâjun Mutahharatun (purified mates or wives). And Allâh will be pleased with them. And Allâh is All-Seer of the (His) slaves".

15. Say: “Shall I inform you of things far better than those? For Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2) there are Gardens (Paradise) with their Lord, underneath which rivers flow. Therein (is their) eternal (home) and Azwâjun Mutahharatun (purified mates or wives). And Allâh will be pleased with them. And Allâh is All-Seer of the (His) slaves”.

[003:016] Those who say: **"Our Lord! We have indeed believed, so forgive us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire."**

16. Those who say: “Our Lord! We have indeed believed, so forgive us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire.”

[003:017] (They are) those who are patient, those who are true (in Faith, words, and deeds), and obedient with sincere devotion in worship to Allâh. Those who spend [give the Zakât and alms in the Way of Allâh] and those who pray and beg Allâh’s Pardon in the last hours of the night.

[003:018] Allâh bears witness that Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He always) maintains His creation in Justice. Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

[003:019] Truly, the religion with Allâh is Islâm. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh, then surely, Allâh is Swift in calling to account.

19. Truly, the religion with Allâh is Islâm. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh, then surely, Allâh is Swift in calling to account.

“Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our transgressions…” (3:144-148)

The Noble Quran

[003:144] Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels (as disbelievers)? And he who turns back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allâh; and Allâh will give reward to those who are grateful.

144. Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him. [003:146] And many a Prophet (i.e. many from amongst the Prophets) fought (in Allâh’s Cause) and along with him (fought) large bands of religious learned men. But they never lost heart for that which did befall them in Allâh’s Way, nor did they weaken nor degrade themselves. And Allâh loves As-Sâbirûn (the patient).

[003:147] And they said nothing but: **"Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our transgressions (in keeping our duties to You), establish our feet firmly, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk."**

[003:148] So Allâh gave them the reward of this world, and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. And Allâh loves Al-MuhsinÝn (the good-doers - See the footnote of V.3:134 and of V.9:120).

“Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and expiate from us our evil deeds…” (3:190-194)

[003:190] Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.

[003:191] Those who remember Allâh (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created(all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.

191. Those who remember Allâh (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Lord! You have not created(all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.

[003:192] **"Our Lord! Verily, whom You admit to the Fire, indeed, You have disgraced him; and never will the ZâlimÝn (polytheists and wrong-doers) find any helpers.**

192. “Our Lord! Verily, whom You admit to the Fire, indeed, You have disgraced him; and never will the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) find any helpers.

[003:193] **"Our Lord! Verily, we have heard the call of one (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) calling to Faith: ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and expiate from us our evil deeds, and make us die (in the state of righteousness) along with Al-Abrâr (the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism).**

193. “Our Lord! Verily, we have heard the call of one (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) calling to Faith: ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and expiate from us our evil deeds, and make us die (in the state of righteousness) along with Al-Abrâr (the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism).

[003:194] **"Our Lord! Grant us what You promised unto us through Your Messengers and disgrace us not on the Day of Resurrection, for You never break (Your) Promise."**

“O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord,…” (4:1)

The Noble Quran

[004:001] O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwâ (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and women; and fear Allâh through Whom you demand (your mutual rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allâh is Ever an All-Watcher over you.

1. O mankind! “O Allâh, our Lord! Send us from the heaven a table spread…” (5:114)

The Noble Quran

[005:114] ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: **"O Allâh, our Lord! Send us from the heaven a table spread (with food) that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a festival and a sign from You; and provide us sustenance, for You are the Best of sustainers."**

114. ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: “O Allâh, our Lord! Send us from the heaven a table spread (with food) that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a festival and a sign from You; and provide us sustenance, for You are the Best of sustainers.”

“Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not,…” (7:23)

The Noble Quran

[007:023] They said: **"Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers."**

“Our Lord! Place us not with the people who are Zâlimûn…” (7:47)

[007:047] And when their eyes will be turned towards the dwellers of the Fire, they will say: **"Our Lord! Place us not with the people who are ZâlimÝn (polytheists and wrong-doers)."**

“Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth…” (7:89)

The Noble Quran

[007:089] "We should have invented a lie against Allâh if we returned to your religion, after Allâh has rescued us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allâh, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. **In Allâh (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those who give judgment.**"

“Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are Zâlimûn…” (10:85-86)

The Noble Quran

[010:085] They said: **"In Allâh we put our trust. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are ZâlimÝn (polytheists and wrong-doers)** (i.e. do not make them overpower us).

[010:086] **"And save us by Your Mercy from the disbelieving folk."**

“So (for me) patience is most fitting. And it is Allâh (Alone) Whose help can be sought…” (12:18)

[012:018] And they brought his shirt stained with false blood. He said: "Nay, but your ownselves have made up a tale. So (for me) patience is most fitting. And it is Allâh (Alone) Whose help can be sought against that (lie) which you describe."

“I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allâh…” (12:86)

The Noble Quran

[012:086] He said: "I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allâh, and I know from Allâh that which you know not."

86. He said: “I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allâh, and I know from Allâh that which you know not.

“Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم): “This is my way…” (12:108)

[012:108] Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم): "This is my way; I invite unto Allâh (i.e. to the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allâh i.e. to the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism with sure knowledge). And Glorified and Exalted be Allâh (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh; those who worship others along with Allâh or set up rivals or partners to Allâh)."

108. 40. “O my Lord! Make me one who performs As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât ), and (also) from my offspring, our Lord! And accept my invocation.

[014:041] "Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established."
